Poatcard-Week: Miscellaneous

To finish off the postcard-week, here is a whole bunch of bishops and cardinals who didn't warrant an own post. Again: Just read what is written on the postcards to know who's who. If there is no information, I'll provide some (where I can).

Cardinal Donnet, archbishop of Bordeaux

I have no clue

Bishop Duparc of Quimper

Bishop Dizieu of Amiens

Now that's a strange baldaquin. Like they are keeping the Cardinal in a cage.

No idea

Again, no clue. He looks like a koala bear!

No bishop, no cardinal, but this funeral coach was too good to pass up.

  1. They're great. Do you have those cards physically? Where did you get them?

  2. No, sorry, I swiped pretty much all of them off the web. Postcards like these are very expensive. If you are interested in buying some, I suggest online-auctions like ebay or flea-markets or used-book stores, which sometimes also sell postcards.

  3. I believe that that form of baldachin, with bars connecting the poles, is in fact the typical, or at least a very common one in France.

  4. Would you have any photo of the interior of Notre Dame de Paris before the renovations?

  5. SMJ: No, sorry, I don't have any photos of Notre Dame from back then. If I find some, I'll post them!

  6. I notice thar in some of the pictures, some bishops wear their miter and crozier with their choir dress. Why is it so? I thought the combination to be unusual.

  7. Leo, I've noticed that some of the French bishops wear (what in England are called) "preaching bands" with choir dress: an extension of their collar.

I'm wondering what colour these bands would be for a bishop? Black or Roman purple? They seem to be particular to the Catholic Church in France.
