The military pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1960

In 1958, French soldiers invited their former German opponents to gather with them in Lourdes to pray together and to pray with their families for peace in the world.

Since then, the annual gathering in Lourdes has grown to involve military personnel from 31 different countries.

Here are some photos from the gathering in 1960:

Maurice Cardinal Feltin, Archbishop of Paris, looking a bit skeptical.

The three Cardinals in this pgoto are (feft to right): Franz Cardinals König (Vienna), Maurice CArdinal Feltin (Pairs) and Bernardus Cardinal Alfrink (Utrecht).

Same Cardinals, same order, but with Feltin in cappa magna, which is fitting because of the three he was the least liberal.
