Sorry...

This Blog is now officially closed. I simply don't have time to maintain it anymore. I hope you enjoyed the photos I provided over the years. It's been fun for me at least. God bless you all and Ciao! (Blog will remain online in case anybody wants to look at some of the photos again)

I'm back!

You poor and dear readers probably thought I fell off the earth. Don't worry, I am still here, but I got caught up in a lot of work, so I wasn't really able to blog.

Just to clarify: Blogging will continue for as long as I can find new material. Even if you don't see any new postings for a long, long time, it doesn't mean that I stopped blogging. When I finally shut down the blog, I'll let you know early enough, so you can observe an appropriate time of mourning and maybe send me some "last minute"-pictures to post.

Why don't we start with part one of a "New photos pf Cardinal Spellman" two-part-mini-series? Most of the photos have watermarks, but they are still worth seeing.

Part two: Tomorrow!

Almost forgot...

Advent/Christmas/New Years-Hiatus!

See you again mid-January!

I see that the number of followers is rising very slowly but constantly. Thank's for that! To all the new followers: This blog isn't updated on a daily basis, but only periodically. Whenever I have a stash of new material I release it, usually every two or three weeks.

If you want to contribute to what you see here, send in your photos of happy prelates, huge processions, catholic crowds and cappae magnae! Advice: Try to not send in photos you found on the internet (unless they are from really cryptic pages people aren't likely to find), because I think I already have pretty much every good photo from any webpage on my computer.

I know that this blog isn't the most widely read. But I also know that it seems to fill an important niche and people are appreciative of what is going on here. So I want to try and keep this thing alive for as long as I can.

Thanks for your co-operation!

Have a blessed advent season!

Leo

I completely forgot...

Summer-Break!

See you again sometime in August!

God Bless!

Okay...

This is how it's going to work:

Since people ask me to not simply shut down the blog but I have a hard time finding new material, I will maintain the blog for the time being and simply post new stuff as I find it. This means you guys will have to be a bit patient and bear with me if there shouldn't be any posts for a week or two or even three.

Thanks!

Emergency!

I just took a look at my collection of photos and I was shocked to find out that I am slowly but surely running out of stuff to post. Of course I'll keep searching the internet for new pictures. But eventually (within two or three months), there might come a day when I'll just have to stop posting.

So I want to ask all kind readers to send in whatever great or decent or nice photos they have of
  • infectiously happy prelates
  • spectacularly colorful canons
  • magnificently flowing cappae magnae
You might think 'Why should I send in a photo I already have seen?' Well, if everyone does it, you send in one photo you have seen and might get dozens of new ones in return you have never seen before. I just want to offer this as a kind of display space for any old or recent photo you might want to send in so that everybody can share and enjoy.

I know that com-box response to my work is usually fairly weak, but my stat-counter tells me that between 500 and 1.000 visitors come here every day to look for new stuff. So there definitely is a crowd out there that would highly appreciate any contribution and might also want to chip in. Let's make this work!

Silly me!

A couple of weeks ago I put the "Keep this blog alive! Send in your photos!" pic into the sidebar. But I never had my eMail shown in my blogger profile. This has changed now. So if you want to contribute to the far sight then feel free to do so. I am not exactly running out of material already, but I see the day coming when blogging will become very irregular or might even stop due to lack of material. If you want to prevent this, spread the word: Leo is always grateful for new photos! Every sender inner will be mentioned of course!

Thanks!

Alright everybody!

This dreadful day has come again when I have to say "goodbye" for the summer. I'll try to do it like last year and post some nice stuff every once in a while so you don't have to live solely on polyester-chasubles and hemp-mitres and also wont have to suffer from cappa-scurvy.

I wish you all a great summer! Please pop in every fortnight or so to see if there's something new. The Far Sight will be running at full throttle again early October!

God Bless,
Leo

P.S.: Cant leave you without a little goodbye-present. A kind reader sent in this photo from "The Colored Harvest, the publication of the Society of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart (SSJ).

Laurian Cardinal Rugambwa, the first black cardinal.

[Thanks Fr. John!]

New!

Blog-roll has been significantly updated and put into alphabetical order.

To all you Catholic co-bloggers out there: Sorry for not linking to you sooner. If you read this and don't find your blog in the blog-roll but think it should be in there, drop me a note!

THANKS ! ! !

Guys, you did it!

You saved the cappae!

I just went online a couple of hours ago to show those crazy French guys the result of the vote. First they were happy to see that my blog made it to the third place (with 16% of the votes). But then they concluded from taking a look at the other blogs that my blog is not about promoting revolutionary activities at all. So they wanted to go back on the deal.

They said: "Hey, we don't have to stay true to what we said! We are French revolutionaries! We say 'Liberty' and lock people up. We say 'Equality' and bring the unwashed masses to power while driving the cultivated and educated estates into exile or death. We say 'Fraternity' and kill everybody who looks the least bit suspicious."

They waved their weapons and started to go for the cappae when all of a sudden their time machine misfired. A bright light emanated from the device and engulfed the weirdos. A loud "whoosh" was heard and they were gone! And that was that.

So: Thanks for showing your support not only for my blog but also for all the cappae in the world! You really made a difference! Finally a field in which "Yes we can!" really applies!

Mini-Hiatus

No blogging for the rest of this week, but...

... so hang in there!

I couldn't resist...

From the forum Ceremonia y rúbrica de la Iglesia española:
"Reina supremo en la galaxia litúrgica el blog The Far Sight, con fijaciones pías en capas magnas, en prelados simpáticos y orondos, y en esplendores sartoriales varios. Un trabajo excepcional"

"In the liturgical galaxy reigns supreme the blog "The Far Sight" with its pious obsession with cappae magnae, likeable and rotund prelates and various sartorial splendors. An exceptional job."
Blush! Thanks, guys!

Cleaning house

The previous post ("My ten favorite arguments against the Cappa Magna...") is a relaunch from the old "far sight". I am planning to take the old blog offline in a couple of days but didn't want to get rid of this entry since I initially considered it to be kind of a "mission statement" (actually, I still do, which is why I'll link to it from the sidebar).

So: If there are any photos on the old blog you always wanted to download but didn't, now's the time.

FYI

I am back in Rome, which means that posting will become more frequent again. I wasn't lazy during the past three months. Apart from keeping this blog kind of alive, I also went out and got some pretty awesome new photos, all of which will eventually be posted here. So keep your eyes peeled for more happy prelates, catholic crowds and cappae magnae that go from here to Wyoming and back!

Bad news and good news

Bad news: It's summer again so posting will become less frequent during the next three months. However, since I want "the far sight 2.0" to be as customer friendly as possible, I will really make an effort to post stuff as often as possible.

Good news: I might be able to visit a couple of diocesan archives during my summer-trips. This will of course result in an increase of my private photo collection. This again means that I will have lots of stuff to share with you in October.

I wish you all a great summer!

God bless,
Leo

Salve

Welcome to "the far sight 2.0"!

I had to choose between giving up "The Far Sight" or finally taking blogging a bit more serious. I decided to do the latter. This means that posting will be much more frequent than in the past. I will gradually shovel the larger part of my pictures from books, newspapers, the internet and from my private collection onto "the far sight 2.0". I might insert a bit of history and every now and then a bit of reflection or just plain blabber.

"The Far Sight" will remain online for the time being, but I will not add content to it. If there are some photos you always wanted to download but didn't, now would be a good time to do so, because I don't know for how long the old blog will be around. I'll definitely post a two week warning before it vanishes for good.

Have fun,
Leo
