Beg to differ: The "Canons" are the Rektor (for Britons: The Chancellor; for Americans: The President) and another of the worthies (possibly the Dean of one of the Faculties) of Vienna's University in full dress uniform. At least one academic cap can be clearly seen in the third photo.
Sorry, Pompous Ass, but I checked back with the archive of the Archdiocese of Vienna. It is correct that there is academic staff in the mix, but (if you don't count the cardinal and the nuncio) everybody with hermine indeed is a canon of the cathedral of Vienna.
