Here are the color photos...

...which I announced yesterday. It's not much, it's only partly new material, but it's color, which always seems to be a favorite with the readers.











This last photo shows the cappa magna of the bishop as it was exhibited a while ago. It looks like he had two cappae. The one thet he is wearing on the photos is made of silk, this one has some nice ermine (with tails even) attached but is made of wool.

Josef Stangl (1907-1979)

He was the Bishop of the beautiful German city of Würzburg from 1957 to 1979. I already posted some photos from the day of his installation quite some time ago. I now found some more pictures that kind of complete my collection. So today I am going to post all the black and white photos (teaser) and tomorrow you get the color blast (main event).

Cardinal Binet (1869 - 1936)

Charles Henri Joseph Cardinal Binet was Bishop of Soissons from 1920 to 1927 and Archbishop of Besançon from 1927 until his death. He was created Cardinal-Priest of S. Prisca by Pope Pius XI in the consistory of December 19, 1927.

It's been a while...

... since I presented a "Happy Prelate".



This painting by Hyacinthe Rigaud from the year 1708 is called "Cardinal De Bouillon opening the Holy Door". I don't really know if he was sitting while opening the Holy Door, but who cares. The sight of His Eminence in all his crimson splendor, silk train vividly wallowing towards the viewer, makes me cast away all doubt. The gentle smile and the rustling robes definitely earn him the "Happy Prelates"-tag.
