Jaime Cardinal Sin

A while ago a reader asked if I could post photos of Jaime Cardinal Sin. Here's what I found:

The photos are from top to bottom:

- Portrait as Archbishop of Jaro hanging in San Carlos Seminary

- Gala dinner hosted by then First Lady Imelda Marcos in Rome in honor of Jaime Sin's creation/elevation as Cardinal.

- 1992 Conferment of the Philippine Legion of Honor Chief Commander award by then President Corazon Aquino in Malacanang Palace.

Sadly, I dont remember ever seeing any photos of His Eminence wearing the Cappa Magna after his creation as Cardinal. There are a quite a few times were he did wear full Pian Dress during his tenure as Cardinal Archbishop of Manila. The most memorable one was during the swearing in of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as President of the Republic after the 2nd Edsa People Power Revolution at the Edsa Shrine with then Papal Nuncio to the Philippines His Excellency Antonio Franco.

Thanks for sharing the photos Leo and I pray for you and your blog always.

Thank you for posting about His Eminence!

But the First picture of His Eminence in Cappa Magna is really his predecessor Rufino Cardinal Santos.

But thank you anyway. God Bless!

Could you post about Jose Cardinal Sanchez, Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation of the Clergy, Ricardo Cardinal Vidal of Cebu and Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales of Manila.

And Photos of Religious Cardinals before The Vatican II Reforms?

Thank You and God Bless You!

Lance:
Thanks for clearing that up. I really wouldn't know because the face is so hard to recognize.
About the pictures you asked for: I will see what I can do.

There is a portrait of Cardinal Rufino Santos in the hospital that bears his name, clothed in cappa magna with the ermine upper piece. If some fellow Manila resident will be able to take a couple of shots for sharing here, that'd be great.

It might, for all we know, atone for the cobbling disaster that his other late eminence wore in a photo of this blog's previous incarnation (i.e. the one involving the lace-up shoes with extra buckles).

The first photo is that of His Eminence Rufino Cardinal Santos.

The 1992 conferment of the Philippine Legion of Honor to his Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin was done at the Manila Cathedral not in Malacanang Palace. His Eminence was celebrating his 25th episcopal ordination anniversary.

I remember His Eminence jokingly remarking "I don't know if this is allowed for me" or something to that effect since he is accepting a Presidential recognition to which the crowd inside the cathedral broke into thunderous applause.

The conferment was done after the mass. The sash looked a bit awkward because it was placed over the chasuble, a liturgical garb. Also, being a sash, it interfered with the chasuble. It was a surprise conferment hence the protocol. But then nobody minded, Cory was the people's president and he, the loved shepherd of the flock.
