This week, there will be color photos exclusively.

Let's start with three shots from Josef Stangl, bishop of Würzburg/Germany from 1957 to 1979.

A color week? Now I've got something extra to look forward to every day!

It seems His Excellency's pom-pom is rather wilted.

All the birettas in those photos have these strange things that are tassels rather than pompoms. I only have seen these in Germany and Austria so far.

those German canons and their purple four-horned birettas...

The birettas and cassocks of the deacon-canons appear to be a a darker purple hue than the purple worn by Bishop Stangl.

It is my impression that when the bishop assumed choir dress after pontifical Mass, his assistant deacons and assistant priest also changed into choir dress.

Note that Bishop Stangl is wearing red pontifical slippers. Apparently he has just celebrated, or will celebrate, Pontifical Mass.

In another post I asked about the vesture that is worn by the trainbearer. Anyone know what it is?
