I usually don't post watermarked photos, but this one is just too good to pass up. The humongousness of Manuel Cardinal Arteaga's ring shows us what a decent anillo used to look like. Bet it had a nice stone, too!

Cardinal Manuel Arteaga auctioned the ring to raise funds for charity. Mr. Gaspar Pumarejo, TV enterpreneur, bought it and years later, as an exile in Puerto Rico, gave it as a present to Archbishop Luis Aponte Martínez of San Juan (later a cardinal himself), who promised to the Cuban exiles that one day he would return it to a free Cuba. I believe Cardinal Aponte still has the ring.
